WordPress to Shopify Migration & Brand Identity

With a catalog of over 10,000 products from top-tier brands like Dewalt, Makita, and Stanley Black & Decker, Cappco faced a significant challenge: how to manage such a vast product offering while delivering a seamless and intuitive user experience. As a key player in the distribution of tools and hardware for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts, the brand needed a platform capable of supporting high-volume operations without compromising usability. Their existing WordPress site, though functional, lacked the flexibility and scalability required to support a performant transactional environment. Managing product updates, ensuring image consistency, and maintaining reliable site performance had become increasingly difficult. The infrastructure was no longer aligned with Cappco’s growth ambitions or the expectations of its demanding clientele. Moreover, user behavior data revealed clear signs of friction in the navigation process, especially when users attempted to explore complex product categories or access technical specifications. With conversions stalling and product discovery hindered, it became evident that a complete overhaul was necessary. The decision to migrate was not taken lightly—it represented a major shift in Cappco’s digital operations. But it also marked a crucial opportunity: to reimagine the customer journey, streamline internal processes, and leverage automation tools to scale the business efficiently. That’s where Maze came in.

Solution

To meet these strategic and technical challenges, we led the full migration of Cappco’s eCommerce platform to Shopify, a robust solution known for its scalability and ease of management. Our primary goal was to preserve the integrity of Cappco’s extensive product catalog while drastically improving performance, organization, and usability. One of the biggest hurdles was the synchronization of massive amounts of product data. We worked closely with Cappco’s suppliers to integrate their Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, including Salsify and Bynder, directly into the new Shopify infrastructure. This integration allowed for rapid, automated product data imports—including images, technical specifications, pricing, and inventory levels. To further streamline the process, we developed a custom Shopify application tailored to Cappco’s needs. This app facilitated bulk product imports while ensuring data accuracy and eliminating manual input errors. A key feature was the automatic pairing of high-resolution images with the correct product listings—critical for a client base that depends on visual precision to make informed purchases. From a user experience standpoint, we completely restructured the navigation system, introducing smart filters, category hierarchies, and advanced search functionalities. Whether a visitor was searching for a specific drill bit or comparing power tools from different brands, the experience became smoother, faster, and more intuitive. In terms of design, we retained Cappco’s industrial yet approachable visual identity, adapting it to a more responsive and conversion-optimized layout. Calls to action, product highlights, and technical datasheets were all strategically placed to support the buyer’s journey and encourage deeper engagement. The end result is a Shopify site fully equipped to handle the demands of a complex B2B and B2C clientele. With enhanced performance, simplified backend operations, and a scalable foundation, Cappco is now positioned to grow its digital footprint with confidence.
