Joomla to Shopify Migration & UX/UI Optimizations
Flordeco is a fast-growing Quebec-based company specializing in the sale of flooring, ceramics, and home renovation products. With a network of more than 35 franchisees across the province, the brand is supported by a dynamic head office that provides its partners with marketing tools, technological support, and a clear vision for long-term growth. Understanding the evolving shopping habits in the home improvement sector, Flordeco launched a strategic digital transformation to strengthen its online presence. This transformation included a full migration from Joomla to Shopify, aiming to better serve both in-store and online customers while providing a modern, intuitive, and high-performance shopping experience. Recent years—marked by the pandemic and renewed interest in home upgrades—have accelerated demand for a hybrid buying experience. Today’s consumers want to browse available stock, get expert advice, and shop comfortably from home. Flordeco recognized this shift as a growth opportunity and committed to building a digital solution that reflects the realities of its franchise model. The challenge was significant: to design a unified transactional site while accommodating the unique needs of each store, offering a consistent experience that still felt local and personalized. With this in mind, Flordeco partnered with Studio Maze Design to rethink its entire digital ecosystem from the ground up.

Solution
To support this ambitious transition, we designed a custom Shopify theme tailored to Flordeco’s visual identity and technical requirements. Every element of the user experience was carefully planned—from homepage to product pages to checkout—to guide customers seamlessly through the discovery of flooring, ceramic tiles, vinyl, and accessories. One of the project’s core technical challenges was the integration of store-specific inventory, ensuring that users could browse products based on real-time availability at their selected store. To achieve this, we developed a custom integration with Flordeco’s ERP system, allowing Shopify to dynamically connect with their internal management tools. As a result, users are prompted to select their preferred store early in their journey, and all product listings are updated in real time according to local inventory. We also built a smart navigation structure that highlights key product categories while supporting searches by material, color, style, or durability. An advanced search engine, combined with clear filters, helps users find exactly what they need quickly—even within a complex product catalog. From a design perspective, the interface strikes the right balance between aesthetics and performance. Immersive visuals, detailed product sheets, and clear calls to action all work together to create a shopping experience that’s professional, reassuring, and aligned with both residential and commercial customer expectations. The entire site was also optimized for mobile use, in line with the brand’s growing share of mobile traffic. To ensure the platform’s long-term success, we also trained both the head office and local franchise teams in how to use Shopify for daily operations and promotional activities. This included implementing tools that allow stores to manage their own banners, promotions, and location-specific content with ease. Thanks to this complete redesign, Flordeco now has a powerful, scalable eCommerce platform built for the future—a key driver in supporting its expanding network and delivering a modern customer experience that lives up to the brand’s reputation.
